Lanolin Oil: This is the product that is used in most moisturizing products like creams, lipsticks, crack healers, hair oil, etc.
Source: Lanolin comes from sheep's sebaceous glands and covers the sheep's wool to save it from harsh elements. It comprises wax esters, fatty acids, and other organic compounds. The widespread way to get lanolin is to boil sheep's wool in water, and then water is boiled till the water gets fully evaporated, and lanolin is separated. Then raw lanolin is filtered and purified as the raw wax is very sticky.
The human body also secretes a similar oil named Sebum, which keeps the body moisturized. You can feel Sebum very much near to nose area. Sometimes it is also called wool fat. But Unlike Sebum, Lanolin has no triglycerides; hence it is not fat. Other wool-bearing animals also secrete this wax. It is one of the excellent emulsifiers for oil and water.
